The King has appointed Philip Holden to be a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.  

The Lady Chief Justice has deployed him to the Northern Circuit, based at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court with effect from 8 September 2025.  

Background Information  

Philip Holden will be known as District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Holden. He was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1994. He was appointed as an Assistant Coroner in 2014.
