The Queen has appointed Jonathan Mark Layton to be a District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court with effect from 1 June 2020, on a salaried part-time basis of 60%.

Jonathan Mark Layton, aged 57, will be known as District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) Layton. He was admitted to the Roll in 1988. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ courts) in 2005, a Senior Coroner in 2010 and as an Assistant Coroner in 2018.
