The Queen is pleased to approve the appointment of a Justice of the High Court. This appointment will take effect from 1 October 2020.  It is anticipated that a further eight appointments will be announced in the coming months.

The candidates approved as High Court Judges are Neil Calver QC and Adam Johnson QC.

This appointment will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements. Neil Calver QC

Neil Richard Calver QC, aged 56 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Calver. He was Called to the Bar (G) in 1987 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009.

He will take up appointment on 1 October 2020 consequential to the elevation of Lady Justice Carr.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Neil Calver QC to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Adam Martin Johnson QC

Adam Martin Johnson QC, aged 54 will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Adam Johnson. He was Admitted to the Roll in 1990 and took Silk in 2017. He was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2018.

He will take up appointment on 1 October 2020 consequential to the death of Mr Justice Henry Carr.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Adam Martin Johnson QC to the Chancery Division.
