New Presiding Judges Appointed
The Lord Chief Justice, in concurrence with the Lord Chancellor, has announced the appointment of four Presiding Judges.
Mr Justice Bryan has been appointed to the South Eastern Circuit where he will succeed Mrs Justice McGowan.
Mrs Justice Jefford has been appointed to the Wales Circuit where she will succeed Mr Justice Lewis.
Justice Pepperall has been appointed to the Midland Circuit where he will succeed Mrs Justice Carr.
Mrs Justice Yip has been appointed to the Northern Circuit where she will succeed Mr Justice William Davis.
These appointments are made from 1 January 2020, when the current Presiding Judges step down, to 31 December 2023.

Mr Justice Bryan was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1988 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed a Recorder in 1999, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013 and a High Court Judge in 2017.
Mrs Justice Jefford was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1986 and took Silk in 2008. She was appointed a Recorder in 2007, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016 and a High Court Judge in 2016.
Mr Justice Pepperall was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1989 and took Silk in 2013. He was appointed a Recorder in 2009, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016 and a High Court Judge in 2018, and was a Member of the Civil Procedure Rule Committee between 2010 and 2016.
Mrs Justice Yip was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1991 and took Silk in 2011. She was appointed a Recorder in 2008, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013, and High Court Judge in 2017.
Presiding Judges are responsible for the deployment of the judiciary and allocation of cases on their Circuit. They also have a responsibility for general supervision of judges on their Circuits.
