Senior Circuit Judge, Resident Judge Appointment: Baumgartner
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill has appointed His Honour Judge Baumgartner to be a Senior Circuit Judge, Resident Judge based at City of London Law Courts, with effect from 4 January 2027.
Tony Baumgartner will continue to be known as His Honour Judge Baumgartner. He was admitted to the Roll in 2001. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and as a Tribunal Judge in 2018. He was appointed as a Circuit Judge in 2019 and as a Senior Circuit Judge in 2023. He was authorised to sit as a Judge of the High Court, Chancery Division in 2022 and London Circuit Commercial Court in 2025, pursuant to s.9(1) of the Senior Courts Act 1981. He has served as the Resident Judge at Southwark Crown Court and the Honorary Recorder of Westminster since 2023. He was appointed a Senior Judge of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia in 2021.
