Council of Appeal Tribunal Judges (CATJ)
The Council of Appeal Tribunal Judges (CATJ) is the professional association which represents the interests of fee paid (associate members) and salaried tribunal judges sitting in the Social Security and Child Support jurisdiction of the Social Entitlement Chamber.
The objects of CATJ are:-
1. To facilitate the exchange of views and information among the members and associate members;
2. To promote and protect the interests of the members and associate members;
3. To present the views of the Council to the President of the Social Entitlement Chamber and others,
4. To maintain the judicial independence of the members and associate members.
The main committee and the fee-paid sub-committee are made up of representatives from each of the tribunal regions in the UK and we meet four times a year. Members are kept informed of the issues which CATJ is considering and which may affect them. Members can raise concerns with their regional representative who can take them forward to the committee meetings. In addition, CATJ is a member of the Forum of Tribunal Organisations and has a seat on the Judges’ Council, and in that capacity may make representations on behalf of our members.
