Fee paid Employment Judges
From time to time, somewhere between 350 and 400 further individuals hold judicial office as fee paid Employment Judges. Such individuals may be in professional practice as solicitors, barristers or chartered legal executives; or they may be academics; or they may be retired salaried Employment Judges. They will act as Employment Judges for a minimum of 30 days a year.
Non-legal members
From time to time, somewhere between 800 and 900 individuals hold judicial office as non-legal (or “lay”) members of Employment Tribunals. They sit with Employment Judges on certain categories of case, where one member will have experience of work from the view of management and the other member from the view of employees or trade unions.
