Appointment of President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal: Marcus Smith
The Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP, has appointed The Honourable Mr Justice Marcus Smith to be President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal with effect from 5 November 2021.
Mr Justice Marcus Smith replaces The Honourable Mr Justice Roth who retired as President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal on 4 November 2021.
Background Information
Sir Marcus Smith, aged 54, was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1991 and took Silk in 2010. He was appointed as a fee-paid Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal in 2009 and as a High Court Judge in 2017.
Mr Justice Roth’s appointment as President of the Competition Appeal Tribunal ended on 4 November 2021. Mr Justice Roth will then return full time to the Chancery Division of England and Wales.
