Appointment of the Designated Civil Judge for Northumbria & Durham
Following an Expressions of Interest exercise, the Lady Chief Justice is pleased to announce the appointment of a Designated Civil Judge. HHJ Mark Thomas has been appointed as the Designated Civil Judge for Northumbria & Durham with effect from 18 April 2026. The Lady Chief Justice wishes HHJ Mark Thomas well in his new role.

Circuit Bench Retirement: Hardy
His Honour Judge Andrew Hardy retires as a Circuit Judge with effect from 6 December 2025. Background information His Honour Judge Hardy was admitted as a Solicitor in 1989. He was appointed a Deputy District Judge in 2005 and a District Judge in 2010. He was appointed a Circuit Judge in 2018.
